  5. Stop smoking. There’s no getting around it. Smoking is detrimental to your health because it damages the walls of your blood vessels, making it easier to accumulate cholesterol deposits.
  6. Manage diabetes. Having high blood sugar levels can lead to diabetes and increase your cholesterol levels. If you already have diabetes, work with your health care provider to keep your blood sugar levels at proper levels and to decrease your risk of heart issues.
